🌾🍞 Exciting news for Africa’s bakery industry! Did you know that Africa can tap into its own climate-smart crops to create healthier bread options? The Innofoodafrica Africa project has successfully replaced 20-40% of white wheat flour in bread with whole flour from crops like millet, sorghum, and teff. The result? Breads with higher fiber and protein content! 🥖✨

By utilizing these locally sourced crops, we not only promote a more sustainable and self-sufficient future for Africa but also reduce our reliance on imported wheat. Imagine enjoying nutritious bread while supporting local farmers and reducing environmental impact. It’s a win-win situation! 🌱🌍

However, we understand that introducing these new breads may face consumer acceptance challenges. That’s why we urge governments, non-governmental organizations, scientific communities, private sectors, and all entities with public influence to come together. Great news! We have published a research article on using leftover parts of faba beans to create eco-friendly packaging. Our study shows that we can make bio-composite films by combining faba bean parts with certain materials. By adding 20% or 30% of these fibres, we were able to reduce the amount of oxygen that passes through the packaging by 29% and 52% respectively, compared to regular packaging.
